Whitburn Band has this summer welcomed two new players to its ranks as part of its challenge for the British Open championships.

Alex Ramsay, one of Scotland’s most respected cornet players, has joined from the Cooperation Band after many successful years with them. He joins on Assistant Principal Cornet.

Callum Robb has also joined the front row cornet section. Callum is a rising star and is the Principal Cornet with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. Later this year, he will continue his musical studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Whitburn also welcomed back two of its former players over the summer months.

Liam Orr (pictured) has returned to the cornet section after completing his Masters in Trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, while Amy Gray – who starts her second year at the Royal Northern in September – re-joins on percussion.

Charlie Farren, Whitburn Band Chairman, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to strengthen the band for an important second half of the year and beyond.

“The band is buoyed by the new additions and looks forward with confidence, beginning with Birmingham this weekend.”
